I'm not sure why Paladin asks about the CPU. Everything I've seen says AMD GPUs run better on Intel CPUs.

To be honest it's a toss up between those cards. The 480 can be faster than the 1060, but is usually just behind it. It is cheaper however. For me it's a tie between them and you can't go wrong with either card. I usually tell people to get the 1060. It generally costs a bit more, but it usually out paces the 480 and uses less electricity.

that is still helpful thank you for you answer i made a decison on going with the 1060 because i want to use it for a long time i don't usually upgrade often besides i use my r9 270 for 4 years now and it still works just fine

Same here. My gaming needs have gone down a bit, and my 7950 is still doing everything I need with ease. Sometimes I think about upgrading to a 1060 for the lower power draw. But spending $200+ for a 50W load difference doesn't make a lot of sense. More so when I get to put it under load very rarely. Would take a very long time to make the math work out.

I agree with the power usage making up for itself over time but you are planning to keep this for a long time (over 3 years)? If so i would strongly suggest the RX 480 8GB purley because Radeon cards have better long-term driver and patch support. Nvidia pretty much moves older cards to legacy support once they are 2 generations old. The extra 2GB might also help but depends how VRAM usage goes up over the next couple of years. A good example of the long-term driver support is look up HD 7970 vs GTX 680 2016/2017. That will give you a prime example of what i am referring to. Or even this review on the RX 480 vs GTX 1060 Launch vs 6 months after launch > http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/73945-gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-updated-review-23.html. The GTX 1060 6GB is still the stronger card by a small margin but you saying you plan on keeping it for some time would be a good incentive to grab the RX 480 in my opinion.

On a side note as 4745454b (That name tho :p) said, CPUs make no difference on reliability of the GPU. Intel/Nvidia Intel/AMD, one won't be more reliable than the other.

ok i will keep that in mind and yeah maybe over 3 years because i take good care of them clean them and replace thermals when need to. am not saying the thermals the manufactures put are bad. But am saying IC Diamond does the trick all the time

Always go with AMD, until Nvidia stops boycotting open sync standards. You'll save a ton on your monitor purchases.
