I'm thinking about upgrading my pcs processor

I've already looked up the type of processor I want and I've made sure it would fit. My main question is, "will my power supply be good enough to handle it?". I'm looking at a "AMD A10 6800K (Richland) Quad Core 100w". My current processor is a "AMD A10 6700 3.7 ghz". My current power supply is a Thermaltake Smart M 850w ATX 12v V2.3 & EPS 12v, 80 plus bronze. Is my current power supply good enough or do I need a better one?

Yes that Power Supply would more than enough to run it. Just a warning an A10 6800K will give you very little performance over your current A10 6700 i wouldn't recommend the upgrade personally not worth the money unless you are getting it free/very cheap. A modern $50 Pentium G4560 would outperform it without a doubt. Hope this helps :)

My specs:

Processor: AMD A10 6700 3.7 ghz
Ram: 12gb
Motherboard: MS-7778 (JasmineR)
Graphics card: Gtx 770 2gb
Power Supply: Thermaltake Smart M 850w ATX 12v V2.3 & EPS 12v, 80 plus bronze

I'm also going to upgrade my graphics card sometime in the future but it seems like most of these newer games require a better processor

See I thought about upgrading to an intel but I wasn't sure. Is the i7 4790k an fm2 socket processor? If so, i'll look into that instead

No. Going Intel would require you to totally switch motherboard as well.

I agree, the 6800k vs 6700 just isn't worth the cost for a *small* improvement.

Hmm, okay so lets say I forget about upgrading my processor entirely and try try overclocking. What would be the recommended percentage I should go for? I've read that anything above 20% is risky if you don't run a water loop. With my current set up, would overclocking be too risky?
