I was running 2x4 gb of ddr 3 ram and one of the sticks is going bad. I have 2 2gb ddr3 rams from when i was upgrading to the other ones laying around but i was curious if it is a bad idea to use say 1 4gb and 1 2 gb sticks to atleast get 6gb or is that not something you can do?

If you have 2GB stick lying around then try to put it in. It may work or may not. Make sure that the frequency and CASlatancy are same. But if it works there may be stability issue and sever crashes. Better you add exactly same model of stick.
