2x 6+2 pin work in 1x 8 pin?

Im planning on getting a Gigabyte GTX1070 Windforce which requires a 1x 8 pin connection. My psu has 2x 6+2 pin connection and is 550W, so i was wondering if this would still work with the card i want to get.

Yes, you can use a 6+2 PCI-E power connector for this card.
As long as it is a reasonable quality power supply it should be fine.
You would need a unit rated 34A on the +12V rails with a 125W CPU or 30A with an 85W CPU.
