Installed Motherboard. Power will not stay on now. Fans start to spin, the computer shuts off then tries to start again & again but will not stay on. Changed power cord, that's not the problem. Tried the old ram, then tried the new ram, no difference. Fans will only spin for a second or two.

Searching the mobo for numbers was a daunting task due to how small the numbers are and whether you have a zero or the letter O. Looking at the motherboard that I ordered, (Acer M3970 Intel Desktop Motherboard S1155 MB.SG50P.007) said that it was for the Gateway DX4860-UR28. The 22 letters and numbers after the S/N on the mobo had no dots but the first 10 matched the MBSG50P007 so I looked on my original mobo and saw that the first 10 numbers were different, (MBSHA0P002). I then ordered the correct mobo and now the computer works fine. I also now have extra ram and a video card if I want to upgrade the machine, an expensive troubleshooting method. Using the Crucial scanner, instead of saying that it is a Gateway DX4860-UR28, it now says it is an Acer Aspire M3970

New motherboard and the original drive and OS?
What OS is this?
What are the before and after parts?

Swapping motherboards like this either works, or it fails completely.
You probably need to do a full reinstall of the OS.

Put in old Mobo. Fans & computer stay on but no signal to monitor. Old HDD has Win 10, was a free upgrade from Win. 8. It looks like maybe the supposedly new Mobo I got from ebay is worse than the original. New ram and old ram tried, still no input to monitor.
