I am getting ready to build and I am confused as to which is the best method to go with. Now that SSD prices are lower I am looking at at least a 256gb SSD and have seen a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB that is on sale I could afford. I will be using my build for light to medium gaming plus media and web surfing/posting with downloads. I don't want to fill up the SSD plus I would like to have an additional source to put data and in a pinch be a back up. With this thinking I was considering a 1TB HDD added in with the SSD. I am over-thinking this and overdoing it? If I went with a 256GB SSD would having the 1TB HDD be okay? If I can get the 500GB SSD would that be a sufficient stand alone drive or can I have it with the 1TB HDD and have the best of both worlds?

I was given an Asus X99-A 3.1 mobo and a NVIDIA GeForce Inno3D GTX 970OC 4GB DDR5 Overclocked Gaming Video graphics Card so I am well on my way to acquiring all the parts needed to start. The CPU and relevant memory will also be acquired.

I will gratefully accept any and all advice from the community. I have never been steered wrong in the past and find the forums a great tool to supplement my learning. Please don't feel you need to sugar coat things if you think I am going in the wrong direction as I am not stupid enough to think I know it all or even most as a person can always learn something new. Thanks to all who respond.

A 250 or 500GB SSD, plus a large HDD is no problem at all.

Or, a single 500GB SSD if that meets your space needs.
Or whatever combination you want.

The nice things about drives is that you can add new ones as time goes by.

My current main PC started out (5 yrs ago) with a 120GB SSD and a couple of larger HDDs.
It has grown into 5 SSD's, totalling ~2TB space. The old HDDs now live in a little NAS box.

My wife's PC lives happily with a single 250GB SSD.
Nothing wrong with having more than 1 hdd. But if you do, unplug them before you install windows on the sdd

Otherwise parts of the install can end up on the wrong hdd.

Connect them after

I've only got a 840 in this. It's fine for what I do. i dont play games on this. So there's plenty of space

Now that you have given me direction on this I was wondering if you have any thoughts as to a processor. As I had previously stated, I was given a X99-A 3.1 USB which has a socket for a 2011-v3 CPU. I have been looking at the available ones and would like an outside opinion as to which one would be the best. Thanks.
