A Xeon Server PC for gaming

Okay guys I just want to ask whether a Xeon Server pc can be used as a gaming pc too.
My father got a whole server pc from his company, complete and working, with a Xeon pc. I am an aspiring computer programmer and he wants to give it away to me. Now, the question that arises is that can I add a GTX 1050ti (I have one) and gt a gaming pc from it. Mind I already have the entire computer (for free).

Thanks. My first post on Tomshardware.

So.... here's the thing.

It'll probably be complete garbage for gaming.

16gbs is really terrible amount of ram for a SERVER to have.

It's very likely an extremely old Xeon CPU, which means low GHz (the worst for gaming) and probably not that many cores either (like maybe 8, which isn't impressive for a low-ghz server CPU)

It's possible the server board doesn't even have PCIE slots as well...

The thing is i dnt have it currently. So we'll have to wait a few days.

But theoretically, let's say that the pc supports a GPU, has 16gb ram(thats sehat server pcs usually have ) wouldn't it then become a nice gaming rig. Theoretically.

Depends on CPUs and their single core clock speeds, if you have a model with a decent clock speed it will probably work decently well, but you have to bear in mind that on the server motherboards it is very likely that you won't be able to Overclock it, so you are stuck with whatever clock speed the CPUs have. The most cores current games will really use is 4Cores, so having more doesn't help with gaming, it will benefit things like video rendering etc. but not games. If you have some of the higher end xeons from whatever generation they are then you can probably get away with it performing quite comfortably. Otherwise you'd either want to upgrade the CPUs to ones with higher base clock speeds or get a motherboard that supports OCing. When you get the server post the specs up here and we'll see.

You should also note that it won't necessarily be the easiest thing to setup as they will have old BIOS's so you may come across some weird and wonderful issues, and it is definitely worth recasing the server with bigger fans so it doesn't sound like an Airport :)

Ultimately it depends on the CPU speeds, what games you want to play, and the resolution&settings you want to play those games at.

And since it's a server it's probably really big and painfully loud as well. (they're meant to be locked behind a door in a refrigerated room with their fans on full blast, spending more than a few minutes in a server room gets really irritating.)
