Is there any possible way to convert hard disk to GPT format without data loss. My motherboard has UEFI-BIOS (I bought my HDD when I had BIOS in my old board) and now I cannot install new Windows using USB drive (My DVD drive is not working)

I only have one 1 TB HDD and no other drive, so there is no chance to backup my data.

Hi

If you give your motherboard make & model someone may tell you what setting is needed
What is old windows version and new windows version?
Going from 32 bit to 64 bit requires booting from windows usb or dvd
going to advanced options to format old c: before reinstalling windows

One problem with going from mbr to gpt partioning is it requires a number of small additional partitions to be created at begining & end of disk so is risky and would require a backup of important data first.
It is not needed for re installing windows

Where do you get errors which prevent you preceeding , what do they say

Hi

If your hard drive is not exceeding 2TB then GPT partitioning is not required to boot up Windows.

There will be a UEFI (BIOS) option to allow Windows to install with MBR or GPT mode

BUT no more than 4 primary partitions are allowed with MBR

Does this hard drive already have Windows on It?
are you trying to over write a previous Windows version?

How did you install Windows onto USB?
using Windows tool or something like Rufus?

Windows is already installed. But I want to format my C drive and install a new one.
Yes, I used Rufus to make bootable drive.
I did not find any option in UEFI BIOS that could allow me to install new windows in MBR, either that or the option is subtly hidden.

Yes you were right before, there was a way. I just went to the boot menu and selected San Disk Cruzerblade instead of UEFI San Disk Cruzerblade. Thanks for the help
