No, they are not the same type. The 8800GT is very old now, but the GT 730 is 5 years newer and better. The GT 730 is much better.
for 60$, get this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133542&ignorebbr=1

But honestly, you should probably go for a better card to save you the time for the nearer future. You can find some pretty good r9 270 deals for pretty cheap and same price as GT 730 on ebay. Here's one (although it's a bit used, it still works the same): http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-R9-270-Graphics-Card-Gaming-/322455375239?hash=item4b13d68d87:g:BOoAAOSwsW9YzDXT

@djsioni The gt 8800 is a 2007-8 product based on the 65mm manufacturing process. The gt 730 is actually a 2014 rebrand of the gt 630, which also a 2012 rebrand of the gt 430 (released in 2010) based on the 40 mm manufacturing process. The gtx series seem to be the only ones that have advanced due to their profits in being flagship items sold at a premium.

you get less performance out of a gt 730 than the gt 8800.

all in all, a gt 730 is a power optimized version, targetted towards people who simply want a home theater PC or business/hospital/academic settings for two-screen displays focused on productivity. Gaming with the 730 is basically shooting for 720p low/medium settings at MOBA/less 3D graphical intensive post-2011 games unless you go for indie platforms on GOG/steam OR go for console-to-PC ported games since they're highly optimized... just my two cents.

tldr: my recommendation is going for a used graphics card. some people upgrade their graphics card every 1-2 years simply because they enjoy shopping and like to resell things 25% to 50% off.
