When I try to transfer files to this HDD it stops at some random point and tells me there was an i / o problem. I scanned the drive using SeaTools and it fails the Long Generic test. I then scanned it using Crystal Disk Info and it says it has 1 reallocated sector, but that's it. What's happening? The drive reads perfectly, and transfers files perfectly... until it doesn't!

The drive was my intended backup drive. I was in the process of backing up and reinstalling Windows 10 when I encountered this problem. I ended up deleting my 'music collection' to fit all my documents on a couple of 4gb USB drives.

So you're saying it was a problem with my OS? I've completed the reinstall now. Worth checking the drive again now?
