hello community

my current specs are:
I7 6700k
Asus maximus viii hero
Xfx pro series xxx 850w
Giga gtx 970 g1 gaming
16gb ddr4 corsair vengance lpx
1tb western digital back
128 gb samsung m.2 ssd (i know i dont have a lot of storage by today standards but its plenty for me x) )

im torn between upgrading and waiting for volta titan (or volta sg80 ti)

the 1080 ti seems like a great card but i dont know it feels strange to not skip at least 1 generation of cards i mean my last card was a radeon hd 7770 and before that my first card was a gt 7800

what do you think isnt it too much of a waste to upgrade so fast?

1080p60hz for now but after i upgrade my card i would also upgrade that for a 1440p monitor

(there are no bad answers im just asking for your opinions xD)

Thank you for your help :)

As someone who runs a 60Hz 1440p monitor with a GTX 970 SLI setup, I can assure you that a 1080Ti is way overkill for it (a 60Hz non-Gsync monitor anyway). Even Witcher 3, which is heavy GPU dependent, exceeds the 60Hz in FPS when I turn off Vsync. Frames are in the mid-70s with max quality settings and 2xAA (my 970s are overclocked to reference 980 speeds).

A GTX 1070 is roughly equal to reference 970s in SLI (mid-60s), so you should shoot for that with a 1440p monitor (stuck at 60Hz). Anything more, even a 1080, is a waste of money. To give you an idea of what a 1070 can do in factory overclock form, here's what an MSI variant does in Witcher 3...

But if you have money to burn, get a 1080. A 1080Ti is only if you have a Gsync 1440p or 60Hz 4K monitor.

well the only games i had problem with on my current setup were release black ops 3 and now mankind divided
witcher 3 runs well for me too x)

thank you for your information dude ;) i think i will rather go for a g-synch 1440p monitor than
i wouldnt like to go for anything less than 1080 ti im aiming for performane diffenece to my current card

mankind divided runs about 40-30 fps on a single 1080 ti :/ 4k and about 55-70 on 1440p (about 60hz so a 1440p60hz monitor would be about what a 1080 ti could do with this game ;P(battlefield 1 and fallout 4 similar scores i definately wouldnt 4k with this card xP))
not saying you are wrong just in some cases this is all what the card is capable of :/
