Home thin client server

So here is ultimately what I am trying to do:

I want my entire home connected in such a way that all access points will have the same applications and data available to them. Essentially, I want to access the same computer from any screen in my home. I want to have multiple users. At least one access point will be a multiple monitor setup. At most there should only be two desktops being used at any given time (me and my girlfriend) although a desktop may be left open accidentally. Also, most of the access points will predominantly be used for watching videos and surfing the web, but I may need them for processor intensive activities as well (CAD and also using MATLAB).

What are my options given these requirements? If not all these requirements can be satisfied what is the next best option?

I have read some similar posts but they were slightly dated so I am hoping there are some better options around now.

If money is no object just call up a citrix partner and they can sell you want you need. Even without the costs of the citrix stuff you are going to pay a lot of money to microsoft for the server license and the RDP licenses.

You must still be aware that things like watching youtube is not going to happen.....unless of course you build your clients as full pc with locally running software which defeats your design requirements.
If your intention was to save money - it is not going to happen.
- The server must be pretty good - couple of times "better" than a single workstation
- technically / legally, you'll still need OS and application licenses for each attached client
On top of that:
- watching videos / playing games are not the best applications suited for remote hosting

My goal is not to save money. I just want a seamless experience regardless of what computer I am using in my house. I have multiple computers right now and it is such a pain to sit down and use one only to find out it doesn't have a particular program installed on it or my files are on a different computer.

Also I dont want my house filled with the hum of computer fans. If I could build a server and put it in my basement that would be ideal

I currently have multiple video outputs on a single computer with different monitors in different rooms. This works but it only allows for a single user and the pain of "losing" open windows and having to change audio outputs everytime I change rooms is such a pain.
