I have a cheap dell 2-in-1 that I bought for my wife a couple of years ago. We've had issues where the power cord will get partially pulled out of the jack on the side (because of kids, pets, wife not paying attention, etc.) and it somehow shorts the battery. When that happens, the cord no longer charges the battery and the system dies eventually because we can't charge it. We bought it from MicroCenter and so I've taken it back there to get it fixed. We just did this recently and the tech said that all that was needed, if it happens again, is to pull the battery and reseat it. When we got it back, it had been a while since we used it (many months) and my wife couldn't remember the password to get on. So I reset it to factory settings which reinstalled Windows 8.1. Since we started the reset process, every time we turn it on, I get 5 short beeps while the dell logo is on the screen that repeat 3-5x before a single beep and we boot into Windows. Is this a component that's not seated properly, something going bad, something else?
Thanks for the help!

The 5 beep code on Dell PC's indicate the CMOS battery is going bad, do you find that you need to set the time and date on the machine once it does start?
The CMOS battery should not be expensive (battery itself should be $3-$15) but replacement is a little tricky so you may want to take it to a repair center to have it checked/replaced (I have no clue what they may charge for the service)

So I changed the battery but when I started the computer, it goes to the Dell logo and stays there. The HDD spins up for a few minutes then goes idle and nothing happens. It doesn't beep anymore but since it doesn't load to windows, it's not much more than a paper weight. Any other suggestions or ideas? I suppose I could see if I can get it to reset to factory settings but I'd prefer not to do that if at all possible.
Thanks!
