Hello all,

The contents in this thread may had been touched on previously by others but either I can't find the right thread or I'm still don't really understand the answers. Can anyone help me. Sorry but thank you.

I brought an average pre-built Intel gaming rig almost 8 years ago. It's time for me to upgrade. But I'm no good with building a PC, so I'll be being buying a pre-built Intel gaming rig.

The new rig will have asus strix z270f and an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW and other goodies.

Question is. Can I pull my old GTX 550ti out of my old rig and put it in the new rig and run 2 different GPUs on one MB? Only reason why I would consider this is because I am using a monitor set up one is a dell 23" with dvi connection for gaming and the other is an old lg 17" with vga connection for display (the GTX 1080 FTW doesn't have a vga connection, but the 550ti does via adapter).

I have money for a new rig but I don't have enough for new sets of monitors yet.

Sorry for long post. Hope someone could help me out. Thank you.

Solution
You can, although this may put a lot of strain on your PSU, and also they cannot be SLIed. I would suggest a VGA to DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort adapter rather than a second card.
+Lickyy I agree with RylieDetchon's opinion; purchase an adapter instead of using two cards. The adapter would be a much more elegant solution. While you could technically run two cards in the same system, I have doubts about a pre-built pulling it off with it's limited power supply.

Speaking of pre-built, why not purchase the custom components and have a store assemble it for you. For example, I've heard that Microcenter will do so for a reasonable fee. If there is a microcenter near you, contact them and ask what they'd charge.
