Yesterday I looked up a couple videos on how to increase my fps in a certain game. After following a tutorial, it led me to "Advanced System Setting" in where I went into "Advanced Performance Settings - Advanced Tab - then Virtual Memory and clicked my C: drive and then "No paging file". The next step I did was I went to "msconfig" - "boot"- "Advanced Options" - then set my number of processors to the max (4). I then tried launching my game and right of the bat my fps was way worse and I couldn't even run play the game. After this I went back and changed all the settings to what they originally were, but im getting terrible fps in every game I play. I then went back to the "Boot Advanced Options" and now it only says 1 processor and when i click the drop down it only says 1. Yesterday it had 1,2,3,4. Any suggestions on why my pc is running games so slow ? And how to fix it ?

SPECS: Intel Core i5-4460 @3.20 GHz
8gb ram
gtx 960

Solution
1: First off, never mess with the Paging file. You could get away with no Page File when games were still 32-bit, but nowadays games will happily eat through 8GB of RAM. I'm amazed you didn't BSOD with out of memory errors.

Seriously, set it back to system managed.

2: It appears the number of CPUs may be misconfigured. How many cores does task manager show?
