Gaming Build Chipset Selection. X99 or Z270.

I'm making a custom build at home. I'm currently deciding my chipset.

Apparently the Z270 is the latest chipset but when I check every other custom build brand like ORIGINPC. They are using the X99.

I'm confused to why they would still be using the X99 if the Z270 it the latest and apparently the best out there.

I need advice on what chipset is best for high-performance PC Gaming.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the motherboards but IDK...

Budget isn't a problem, neither is skill in installing the chipset. I just need advice.

For a gaming computer an i7 7700k and a Z270 will be the fastest config. You should be able to find LOTS of articles that give you that answer. Games don't generally benefit from more cores (X99). They benefit from clock speed (Z270 i7 7700K) .

7700k due to stronger cores. A handful of games get a few fps more with the 6850k but the majority the 7700k is the clear winner.
