CPU temperature spiking

I am seeing a very strange activity from my i7 6700K.On idle it sits around 20-25C but when i open a program (google chrome for example) the temperature spikes to around 50-55C but only for a second and then returns to normal. Is this normal for this CPU?I downloaded CPU-Z and core voltage says 1.35-1.4V.I haven't done any overclocking.

Solution

That should be able to run a constant voltage, I wouldn't advise too much OCing on that cooler though.
Disable the energy saving settings on your cpu, and make sure the clock and voltages are at the cpu's defaults before you save and exit Bios.

I haven't done any overclocking on anything in my system.Everything runs on stock speeds.I haven't done prime 95 test

I did.I only see the temperature spike when my voltage climbs.

The only other thing that comes to mind is power saving. When it's idling, it uses less watts and volts to save power, keeping the cpu cold and extending it's life span. When you open a process, it uses more watts and volts, that jump in energy heats up the cpu faster than it could cool, but only for a bit. I recommend that you have adequate cooling.

You can fix this in the bios. Depending on the mobo, there should be some type of power conservation settings. This way, it will always run at the same clock and volt, but you need a good cooler.
