Hi Guys,

As the title outlines I currently own 970 SLI's but am getting quite sick of a lot of new games not supporting SLI so thinking about moving back to single GPU.

I currently am running i5 4690k OC @ 4.0 GHZ
16GB @ 2133MHZ RAM
Asus ROG Swift pg278Q

So potentially CPU bottleneck issues possible.

My Question is for my 1440p setup:

1) Should I got all out for a 1080Ti and future proof myself running everything at max in the foreseeable future

2) OR Get the 1080 which is about £200 cheaper which should run most games at 1440p max anyway

3) Or sit tight and wait for the next gen!

Thanks!

Solution
I would just go for the 1080, as with the sale of the 2x 970s it shouldnt cost much at all, and would work very well at 1440p.

I would overclock your 4690k a bit more (4.0ghz is pretty mild), but you shouldnt have much of a bottleneck at 1440p.

With 144Hz 1440p monitor I'd be aiming for the best gpu that budget allows, so the 1080Ti. My only concern is your CPU will hold back a 1080Ti in some CPU heavy games that benefit from the extra threads of an i7. Maybe a 1080 is better suited match for your CPU.

If me I'd get the 1080Ti and keep watch for signs of any significant bottlenecking.

Thanks! Asus also have £50 cashback on their 1080 which makes it much better value than the 1080TI's as well!

I know, what you are facing.
I went from 2xGTX970s on XB270HU to a single GTX1080 also because of the same reason.
GTX1080 is already very good for 1440p but GTX1080Ti is also a not a bad choice.
GTX1080 has the better price/performance value.
You can find a KFA2 GTX1080EXOC for €498, which is about the price of MSI GTX1070 G1 or ASUS Strix.
