Before I start, let me say that I know this will bottleneck. I know I need to upgrade my PSU. Already planning to do that. And yes, I've read other threads asking similar questions.

My question is: would I see a performance boost at low settings/low resolution by upgrading to a GTX 1070 from my current GTX 950?

I speedrun video games, therefore I play everything in low settings to save frames. Because of this, I also have a habit of even playing casual games in low settings and low resolution. I prefer performance over looks.

I plan to upgrade to a Ryzen 1700 at some point down the road, however, for now would upgrading to a 1070 give me a performance boost, or would the bottleneck still be too bad at even low settings?

Yes it would still give you a boost, you might run into performance issues in terms of lag at really low settings you may need to turn them up to get the smoothest performance. Basically you want to slow the GPU down to the speed of the CPU.

Okay, cool. That's kind of what I figured, but I wanted to get some insight from people with more experience. Like I said, it would only be temporary, until i can upgrade to a higher end CPU. But for the time being, and for what I do, I really need a performance boost/solid frame rate at low game settings.
