Hello,

Just build a new machine using the configuration mentioned in the subject :
i5 7600K with Gigabyte Gaming K5 , using 16GB of 3000mhz DDR4 ram.

The question would be - is it safe to just increase max active turbo boost on all cores vs doing OC, there you increase CPU multiplier (with disabling all of the states ofc)?

What I had noticed is - when I enable XMP profile for my RAM - it will keep CPU constantly running at max trubo boost of 4.2 Ghz anyways, which is fine by me, I have Acrtic Freezer 120, which keeps it well under 50C under load.

So i tried briefly to increase turbo on all cores to 4.4Ghz without touching anything else like voltage any other features and it ran fine at that constant clock.

Apologies if this needed to go to motherboard forum...
But your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Solution
I would use the max turbo boost, set a default clock speed.
Example would be 3.6ghz then let the xmp settings kick up the speed when needed and put it back on default when you don't need it.

Kind of like AMD's cool and quiet feature for the am3+ socket.

If you want 4.4ghz set the cpu multiplier to it adjust the ram voltage, if the bios page shows a red warning on the side don't fool with it.

So if I clearly understand, what you are suggesting is -

- Set my Turbo clocks for each core to default 3.8Ghz stock clock on i5 7600K, and increase multiplier to 44, with havng EXP profile enabled.
This way it will constantly run at 3.8Ghz and only reach 4.4Ghz on load?
