So. If I plug my Xbox One in a surge protector and than my modem or router and maybe TV it slows down my internet, if I plug in my TV and router and modem without Xbox One it still slows down my internet, if I plug my modem and everything else in directly to wall separately everything starts working fine. Modem still has some T-3 time outs thou even if I plug it in the wall directly. But since it won't reach the outlet where my modem and stuff is setup I use short 10' extension cords for modem and router. Upstream speeds are really acting up lately no matter what I do but it is way better when I plug modem and reouter and everything else in separately. Why? Is my power supply not strong enough to run everything with surge protector? Is one of my breakers bad or is there really something wrong with my internet since I do get some T-3 timeouts on my modem? I don't know what I need to do to be able to use a surge protector to be able to protect my modem and router and really everything I have in my man cave since it all cost a lot of money.

What make and model surge protector? Do you know if the surge protector has taken any "hits". Damage is cumulative and the surge protector may be failing.

Also does the surge protector have any coax, ethernet, or telephone protection ports? Are you using them - especially the ethernet ports. Problem could be therein.

Trust that no Ethernet powerline adapters being used - they cannot be used with surge protectors.

I would suspect a faulty electrical connection somewhere from breaker to the end-devices. And the surge protector is the most likely suspect. Would not expect that the connected devices would be too much of a load on the circuit.

At one time I had a cable tech tell me not to plug my modem into any kind of surge protector.
The surge protectors do take hits and the components in them wear out before they stop working.
I have had bad or weak power adapters for modem, router and switches slow things down.
They break down and can not put out enough current to run the devices.
Make sure your power adapters are the right ones for your devices. Using a one amp power adapter for your router when it requires a two amp will cause problems.
