I am currently debating which of these graphics cards I should use in my new gaming PC. Here is my current list:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/T4kdwV

Should I use the listed card, or switch to a MSI GEFORCE GTX 1080 GAMING X 8G?

Edit: I dont plan to use vr anytime soon, so that is not a factor.

The clocks speeds and boost clock speeds on the Gigabyte are way higher. If you can afford that extra $40-50, and don't feel like overclocking the MSI manually, definitely go with the Gigabyte.

If you're comfortable overclocking the card and want to save $40-50, the MSI isn't a bad choice. They both have nice coolers, though the Gigabyte's is better.

Not doing any editing besides that? Have you considered the Ryzen 7 1700?

Not that much of a difference actually as you can OC the MSI Gaming X to similar levels. With Pascal the difference is little between each card.

Just might need a bit of luck with the silicon lottery

Well, the one in the partpicker list comes with your choice of For Honor, or Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

With no link to the other one, hard to say.

All GTX1080 are fairly comparable, very minor differences in max frequency and temperatures when overclocked, and there is the GTX 1080Ti to consider.

Differences between GTX 1080s are not going to be significant enough for you to base your purchasing decision on it. My recommendation is to base your choice on either price or preference. Price is straightforward enough because there is a number of dollars associated with each card's purchase price. Preference, however, can be based on almost anything about the card you like (e.g. looks, lighting, cooling, etc.). Since you have a case window on your tower, it might come down to something as simple as whether you like black (Gigabyte) or red (MSI) better.
