I am having a hard time finding out if I can swap out my CPU from my Lenovo y510p which is an i7-4700mq to my dell e5430 which is currently an i7-3540M. I accidentally bent the pins on the dells CPU and had this other laptop for spare parts. I've tried looking up the chip sets but I'm having a rough time with that and the thermal requirements.

Nope , you can't switch them , one is 1150 Haswell platform and one is 1155 Ivy Bridge platform.
