Windows 7 hangs just after boot.

Evening!

The issue started a while back, but I have not bothered about it until now. Essentially, when I boot into Windows (just after the log in screen) it takes a while for the system to respond properly.

It's a bit tricky to describe but this is how it goes. If I try to access any programmes pinned in the Start Menu just after coming into Windows, it will hang for a couple of seconds. I can still use anything other than the Start Menu just fine. Perhaps it takes ten, fifteen seconds for it to respond. But when it does respond, it appears that everything responds.

What I mean with that, is that when the programme eventually starts, several other things in Windows also start. So, after these ten or fifteen seconds, the prompt for the external hard drive that I have plugged in appears (although I can access it before anyways), the internet connection immideately goes from the identifying-state to internet access, and the system processes add from about 32 to 38, just like that.

It's not a big problem, as this is the only time it does this (and it occurs every time), but it can be a bit annoying. Unfortunately, I can not remember when this started, or I could pinpoint a certain event to be a possible cause.

EDIT: Might I add, that if I wait around fifteen seconds before logging into Windows, none of these issues occur.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Sincerely.

Forgot to mention, the issue persists even if I do not use an external drive. But yes, I always have it plugged in.

X99 based system, ASUS X99 WS/SE, Intel Core i7-5820K (slightly overclocked), HyperX Savage DDR4 @ 2666 (slightly changed the timings), ASUS GTX1070 Dual OC (stock) and it's beeing powered by an EVGA G2 750W power supply. The Windows boot drivis an HyperX 3K SSD, and I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda drive aswell.

Try with the system at stock speeds if you are overclocking, you need to remove any variables form the issue. Since you are on an SSD it's not likely a hard drive issue with it failing and slowing down. Did you try a clean Windows setup already or did a spyware/virus scan?

Did you check in Task Manager if anything is taking up a large amount of CPU or memory? I normally just do a clean Windows setup rather than spend time trying to track down what some odd slowness issue is, but it's up to you, many people don't like re-installing their programs or trying to tweak things again.

Aha, I am certainly more of a tinkering-guy, and just as you wrote that I managed to solve it.

Essentially, I took a look in the Event Viewer, and I found the issue in there. Weirdly enough, it was caused by the Origin Web Helper Service. I very, very rarely use Origin, so I had disabled the main service in msconfig. But, as the Event Viewer stated (A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Origin Web Helper Service service to connect.), something was still trying to start. When I took a look in services.msc, I found that the Origin Web Helper Service was indeed trying to launch. I set the service to disabled, and after that, no more issues at all.

I did not get any slowdowns, nor any delayed disk popups after this. There are no longer any problems marked in the Event Viewer either.

Thanks sincerely for your help anyways!
