Looking for suggestions from people more familiar with current components. Just sold my 4690K to a friend (was working fine just wanted to help him out and have an excuse to go to DDR4 and other newer features). I have about 550 to spend on RAM, CPU, and MOBO. I also am close to a micro center so prices for the CPU and MOBO tend to be cheaper.

If you still have the RAM you could get by with an R7 1700 and stick with DDR3 until you can upgrade.
Going from a 4690K, you aren't going to gain much unless you go with an 6-8 core CPU.

My intentions were to go to an i7. I was looking at either a 6/7700K or an older X99 platform. Both are relatively the same price at Microcenter but not sure if going for the more cores on the 5820K Vs the newer architecture of the 1151 CPUs?
