I have a few questions, mainly to due with channel usage(RF).
The network in use uses Meraki APs. There are seven APs in use, the building is ~18000sq ft and is one story.
Three of the APs are very close, three large rooms which can have 20-30 users in each are next to each other. I have an AP in each, with each AP using a different channel (1,6,11).
There other four are spread throughout the building for even coverage. These APs are almost never an issue
In the area, 11 seems to be the most crowded channel.
Not sure what walls are made of.
All tests below were done in line of sight of the AP with no other users (maybe some idle computers)
The max bandwidth a single user can use is 24Mb/s and most are capped around 6-12Mb/s
I have an issue with RF usage, today it was most notable on channel 1. Although it happens on all of them sometimes. Both examples are on the same AP, channel one.
Example One: No one on the network but me. I run a speed test, channel usage on channel 1 for the AP I am using goes from 6% to 65% while running speed test. (speedtest will jump to 24Mb/s and use 65% then settle at 10Mb/s with 30% usage)
Example Two: Five user's on AP, AP will go up from around 25% to 90%usage (usually around 0-5% is background - info via meraki) with minimal actual usage per AP. The only other AP on channel 1 goes up around 10% from this
Some days there will be around 15-30 users in each of the three rooms and all APs will be at 60-99%
I have not done as extensive testing on the APs on channel 6,11.
I do have usage issues on channels 6 and 11, although today I had 20 active users on one of the other rooms with no issues.
I have tried tx power from 1-20
I have tried auto settings (much worse)
I made sure there were no other nearby wireless signals
20MHz wide
I have disabled other APs
All VOIP phones are wired
Guess this just seems oddly terrible?
Let me know what I should do to improve setup
