My cpu keeps overheating and once it gets to 74c it freezes, i have had this for 3 years and it over heated then too. i just ignored it and only played dota 2 which it worked fine on. i just recently started playing other games like Overwatch and Diablo 3 and my CPU doesnt last long before it gets to hot. Also my idle temp is 49-50c
My Specs: AMD FX-9590
MotherBoard: Asus Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0
CoolingSystem: Corsair 240mm H100i v2
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

Solution
If the pump is at Max speed, try to set it a bit lower something like 60% or 70% speed.

WHY? I know you will ask why...
Because pumps can cavitate.

The FX9590 is just a factory overclocked FX8350.(AMD does some binning and selects ones that tested to run at the higher speeds) Set it back to the voltages and speeds of the FX8350 if it still overheats.
This small speed increase comes at a great cost of heat and watts. So it goes from 125watts to a whopping 220watts to gain that extra 1ghz or so.

With a GTX780 it's very unlikely that it's cpu-limited even at FX8350 speeds.
Make sure that your pump is at one of the higher settings in the Corsair software and that you don't have any dust, you could also raise the fan profile so that they spin faster. You could also undervolt and underclock it so that it runs cooler and look at replacing the thermal paste. Those are all the free/cheap options, but if I were you I'd consider getting a new processor and mobo, the 9590 is notoriously terrible.

Then your choices are either undervolting/underclocking the CPU or getting a better cooler unfortunately, the radiator on the H100 is pretty small compared to most other 240/280mm coolers so the cooling performance isn't quite there. I'd actually buy a new processor/mobo before spending more money on a new cooler though. On april 11th, the Ryzen 5 lineup should be coming out and I feel like a 1600X and B350 mobo would be a good investment for you.

This doesn't make any sense, the VRMs overheat causing the computer to shut down, it has nothing to do with the CPU. His motherboard should be fine as long as there's adequate airflow. 74C means his CPU is overheating and the "freezing" rather than black screening indicates that as well. Even if it was the VRMs, this would still fix it. You can undervolt/underclock your CPU in your motherboard's BIOS. Stock VCore for and 8350 is ~1.30V and the stock multiplier is 40. You can look up any overclocking guide for your motherboard to find those settings and basically overclock in reverse.

Hi Cheetah_1 :) and yes your idle temps are way too high and the AIO is not coping.
The FX-9590 is a beast of a processor and you will not get stability for anything more than stock 4.7GHz with a H100.
A H110 GT will allow for turbo frequency or 5.0GHz static. Anything above and the H115 is required.
To get stability at the Higher frequencies requires Bios intervention and you also need a decent PSU of at least an 850W efficient and quality gold certified unit.
What PSU do you have.?
What version Bios are you on.?
You have the correct MB and Bios to enable a stable OC however you may need help with Bios settings.

I recommend you replace the AIO to at least a H110 and reapply your thermal paste with AS5 or MX4 if you wish to retain your platform.
The FX-9590 can be tamed but please consider the cost and is it worth it. Yes I would say so for $140.

I have two FX-9590 systems and OCed to 5.2GHz which are 24/7 stable. It is not easy to get there but i'm sure I can help.
Idle temps should be 10-15C above ambient room temperature and 60-65c under load.

my case is pretty similar to the Corsair Carbide 88R. My radiator is at the top of the case with two fans under and hooked up. I also have two fans at the front, one in the back by cpu and two on graphics card. i just underclocked it and im sitting at 51c
