I had an old HDD and I wanted to clone my drive to a new SSD. So I hooked up both drives, hdd in the Sata 3ghz port 1, SSD in Sata 6ghz port 1. The computer booted up to the windows 7 loading screen and then black screened. I could still type in my password and log in, and I was able to hear all the normal windows sounds. The monitor didn't say 'no signal,' just black screened.
So I shut it down and tried again with just the HDD, which had caused me no problems before. But now even with my old working configuration, I hit the same problem every time.
I researched this problem and many people suggested the driver was corrupted, and I should uninstall and reinstall.
So I did.
I was able to boot up in safe mode. In safe mode I have tried uninstalling drivers with device manager and with DDU. Once I uninstall the drivers in safe mode, I am able to boot into windows normally. But as soon as I reinstall the proper AMD driver and restart from windows, I get the black screen issue again.
Windows runs perfectly well in safe mode and with whatever bare bones driver windows installs when you boot up after uninstalling.
The only other thing I can think of to tell is that previously after installing the rx480, if my computer went idle, occasionally it would not come back from black screen until it was manually restarted.
I have seen this mentioned on amd forums as a semi-common complaint about recent drivers, so idk if this sheds any light on my current problem, but I thought i'd mention it.
Thank you for your consideration and assistance.
