hello everyone, i am quite new to messing around with GPU's but do know most of the basicsc. i have recently purchased the gtx 1080 ti FE and am quite happy with its performance, the only small issue i have is that i (believe) that the card is running hotter than i would like, nothing dangerouse but still too hot for my liking. the temps are about 28 degrees idle and about 85 under max load. which isnt at all too hot but still to hot for my thinking as the max operating temp is 91 degrees, and 85 is cutting it close. i currently have not overclocked and everything is pretty much stock standard. i think the hotter than expected temps are caused by nvidias default fan speed settings, pretty much maxing out at 50%. i messed around with the fan speeds in ASUS GPU tweaker and came up with the profile of user defined fan speed settings of 30 degrees at 30% fan speed, 50 degrees at 50% fan speed and so on, so its a steady climb of temps vs fan speed. since i have done this i have noticed a 20 degree cooler GPU on average than what it used to be. ( e.g arma 3 at ultra used to be running at 60 degrees, now is only 45 ish) is this the correct thing i should have done?? no side affects running the card and the cards fans at these speeds for extended periods of time?, pretty much just asking if what i have done is ok and not a bad idea for any reason i have not foreseen. as i siad im fairly new to this and wouldnt want to damage a brand new expensive card. im open to any suggestions or improvements if any more experinced people want to have their input :p thanks in advance and have a good day :)

P.S i also benchmarked using heaven with my new setup and got 140 fps ( average) on highest settings for everything and got the card to 86 degrees, this is what initially got me a tad concerned for my temps :)

Yeah you can do that, its good to keep it cooler as you should get a bit more performance as gpu boost can increase the speed when the temps are lower.

The main reason its not like that from the factory is because of the extra noise.
