Does your choice of ISP affect the internet speed that you will get?

What's the point of buying your internet from a better known brand name, rather than going for a cheaper option which offers the exact same product? Would you get higher speeds on the more expensive ISP or is it small things like customer service or extra features?

I have a cheaper option here or a $10 more option which offers a lower speed but the same amount of data, although it's a more well known brand here. What are the pros and cons of each option and what should I go for?

TPG may have more free services on shared servers like I know they have a local steam server which means all downloads are faster. TPG being massive also likely to have better support than smaller ISP. Also might have better modems

I can't see a lot about the Myrepublic plans, the 2 they have are weird as its hard to tell what difference is on them, I assume the $99 modem cost is per month and they don't mention a call cost whereas TPG do. Neither include it in cost which is expected at cost.

ISP choice doesn't effect speed on NBN I don't think, your location does. Neither plans guarantee a max speed as they can't. 100mbit would be nice, best I can get is 67 but I am not on NBN as it doesn't cover all suburbs where I live.

This might...

Hmm, interesting. I didn't realise ping would change with choice of ISP and that would be quite important to me since I'm often playing online games. I found that they offer a low latency option for $10 more which would make it the same price as TPG but would still offer a higher max speed. I guess I'll have to contact them about that and try and find out what kind of latency I could expect. Thanks for your help and that very specific link, didn't expect a comparison with the MyRepublic ISP aha
