I have an old Asus P9X79 that is still going strong, mostly, except for the fact that no matter what the top slot which is the 1st 16x slot runs at 8x no matter what I do. Moving the card down to the second slot runs it at 16x like normal.
Don't have any other PCI Express cards or devices plugged in and it bothers me that the top slot refuses to do 16x. It did at one time and I don't know what changed but now it just doesn't.
The only saving grace is that it will run at 8x 3.0 (using the force enable Gen 3) otherwise it will run at 8x 2.0. Really weird that the main slot has problems but the second slot is completely unaffected.
Worth noting as well that in the BIOS it is set to use Gen3 as well.
