Hello everyone, I have come to a problem and need to get a new GPU. its needed for gaming: league of legends, starcraft, and no man's sky. I know the first two will excell of either GPU, no man's sky, though will be different.

my current setup is
8Gb ram
i7 860
gtx 550TI
~300W PSU

i have two GPU options, a brand new GTX 1050 TI or a used GTX 960 gaming g1 2gb . the 960 is $100 so i could buy a new PSU and be near the same cost as a 1050TI. my problem is in no mans sky its hard to find comparable benchmarks.

Solution
1050 ti is better than the 960, so go for that.

if youre going to play on 1080p, I strongly advise to grab the gtx960
I did a lot of games comparing a 960 4gb vs 1050ti - whilst both gave me similar fps:
- 960 always gives excellent refresh rates leading into a very smooth gameplay
- 1050ti gives somewhat playable refresh rates and at many points it was just extremely sluggish

edit: tested with i7 5820k @ 4.5ghz + 32gb 3000mhz gskill

Be aware that on older systems without a UEFI bios the newer Nvidia cards can be trouble. So contact the company(EVGA or whoever) before you buy to make sure it'll work. Next, the 1050 Ti with 4gb and not requiring a 6 pin power connector would be the one to get. It'll work with a 300W-ish power supply and your CPU still has some life left in it so get the newer card.

The one reason I would go for that 960 is if that power supply is not just on the low power side of things, but also a cheap brand. In that case, yes get yourself something decent and go with the 960.

I really don't think you want to run your PC with a 300w power supply with the GTX 1050 Ti, or your going to have i7 throttling problems, being the Cards going to pull 200w accelerated or better, Stick with the GTX 960, way less power consumption runs cooler, more efficient on the i7 with only 300 watts, An theirs really not that much difference Stock on the bench, unless your over clocking? then I recommend getting a new PSU 600 watts or better. Good Luck
