I want to OC this but have never done it before. Only thing I have done is Upgraded ram from 3x2GB kingston 1333 sticks to 4x4GB G Skill 1600 sticks. when I added them I was having problems with random restarts with no error or BSOD , checked ram and clock speeds were 11 11 11 28. I went into bios and changed from 1333 to 1600 and changed to 9 9 9 24. I dont have the restart problem anymore as of now, but my process's have also slowed down. I figured time to OC and see what this can do. My question is ( as a newbe ) How to OC my machine for top speed and still be stable. Let me know what you would do and thanks for advice in advance.

He talks about his set up and how tos, different MB CPU and bios that I have. A lot of good info but as a nube to this it didnt help me with my venture, thank thou. I am looking for the setting for my MB CPU and BIOS to overclock. right now my CPU is set at 3.0 and Im hoping to get mybe 3.4 or 3.5.
Let me know if someone can help to reach these goals and still maintain stability.

Ok, Like I said I am A OLD newbe just coming out of the cave, lol. I know some software basics. Most of the time I edit, convert and burn Home movies for people. ( its kinda like my hobby.) Now that I have been disabled for 6 years now I had to find something else to do to keep my mind sane, ya know. lol
Being disabled sucks mostly because Im on a fixed income now with a WIFE ( $ ) three kids ( $$$$$$ ) mortgage, van payments and the list gos on and on. With that said my HOBBY is last on the list so I have to do things little by little over time. I had my machine built 7 yrs ago by a company in Cleveland, I told they what I want to do with it and they built it for me. Again that was 7 yrs ago. Now with all that said and to not bore you any further, Im sure you understand that my budget is low. I have done some little upgrades with the intent to do more as time comes on but its in a far future for now. Upgrades ram to G Skills Ripjaws 4x4GB DDR3 1600 cards and I also Added a 250GB SSD for my primary and use my 1TB HHD for storage. also bought a new case with cable management and airflow in mind. After installing new and exchanging old to new case, fresh install of windows on SSD, wiped old HHD and formatted it as a storage drive (D:) things seem to be running fine. I installed my video editing and my convert and burn programs that I like, updated them and started my hobby. Before my upgrades when I would go to work ( Hobby ) I could be working on editing 1 video wile I have 6 converting and burning in the background. I use ConvertXtoDVD 7. for my convert and burn program. I know there are many others but I like it for its simplicity. anyhow on 6 convert programs running at the same time my fps were around 70 - 90fps and if I was running just 1 they would be around 190 on a average but ive seen it get as high as 270 depending on quality. After my upgrades/changeovers I started running into a problem of, if I ran more than 1 ConvertX program and did anything else my computer would restart. no errors or a BSOD just a simple restart. Then I started to freeze and had to manually restart but there to even though I had to press the restart button I got no errors nor a BSOD. Just as curiosity I ran a program ( Speccy ) and I noticed that my ram that I installed clocks were running at 11 11 11 28 when there supposed to be at 9 9 9 24. I went into bios and changed the timming on it to 9 9 9 24 @ 1600 ( match the cards installed ) saved and exited. started all over again but this time I ran only 4 convertX programs and did nothing else until they were done. There was no restart or shutdown my CPU and Core temp at MAX was 54c, when in idle it gos from 24-32c. so my temps are good but now I have this FPS when converting problem. remember my FPS before upgrades were 190-270fps on a single and 70-90fps on 6 programs but now on 4 and that was the only thing running FPS were 24-32fps. Oh no no no. this wont do. thats 1.5 Hrs on 2 GBs of video. I know that convertX is a very CPU intensive program. So with my budget the way it is I figured OCing my system is my next bet. I have never done any of this minus changing the setting in bios for the ram as I said befor and that was youtube, lol. However I dont think youtube is going to help me on this one and here at Tom's I have gotten nothing but great advice and instructions so my newbe self dont go and blow chit up. That would be my luck then Im out a PC and no way to get another, lol.
I know overclocking my system until I can upgrade new is the way to go from here but I have no FRICKEN way of knowing what I am doing. I have downloaded CPUz ran it and saved it to this HTML please have a look at my system and settings and inform me of any and all changes that I can do to OC this to get my FPS and conversion times back to normal if not better. ( file:///C:/Users/Mrgrunts/Desktop/MRGRUNTS-PC-CPUz-2 )

Please any changes to better but yet stable. Thank you

Dennis

That file is only accessible to you, for us to see it you need to upload it somewhere, like mediafire, sendspace...
The settings for your overclock will be different than others, because not all CPU's overclock the same.
The article is good, just skip the introduction if you don't like reading a lot.
