so, i've got my (prebuild) pc and i was wondering if i should upgrade it, it has gotten a gtx 760 1.5gb vram, and the cpu is i5 4440, i was thinking of upgrading the gpu to a gtx 1060. or a rx 480.

The i5 is a capable chip, and upgrading the video card will make a very noticeable difference. Both are good contenders, but, as gillhooley pointed out, the lower power draw of the 1060 is something to consider.

Do you know the details on your power supply? Some prebuilts come with particularly weak PSUs.

Yes any of the two GPU are great upgrade options. I would get the higher memory version of those GPU (6gb 1060 or 8gb rx480) just for future-proof. Both have almost same performance, it just depends on which games you play most.
According power-supply, I think if your prebuilt pc has a GTX760 you won't have any issue with these new cards.
