would getting a new wifi router make my internet faster ish? rifht now we have 4.5mgpbs down and like 700kb up. but whenever someone is say downloading on ps4. no one else can even browse the net.. i mean literally. u cannot open up anything. nothing nata. all error dns errors and no reachable errors. would a new wifi router fix this or is this just slow net?

You might find a WISP in your area. These work similar hotspots but they use directional antenna on your house. Look for antenna on peoples house around you. The more common ones will be small boxes about a foot long by a few inches wide. The also use what look like satellite dishes but they are pointed more flat....at not up in the sky for a satellite.

It really is bad when there is no options for internet in a area. Your ISP could technically run your connection much faster using newer forms of DSL but if they can already overcharge for what they have there is no incentive for them to upgrade.

At those speeds, it just sounds like slow internet - and if that's the route cause, no router is going to change that.

If your router is older, supporting an older wifi standard (like pre-N) or limited to 10/100 opposed to 10/100/1000 (Gigabit ethernet), it may not be capable of allowing you to access the full speeds provided.

First things first though, what plan/speeds are you paying for?

i live out in the boonies and this is THE highest speed we can achieve.. dont talk to me about the price. i just get sad... you think there are hotspots unlimited data that are good ? we do get 4g lte around here. our router is pretty old netgear wgrv614v10

That is a old router but your connection is so slow it should still keep up with 4.5m. That connection is so small you are right at the limit of watching HD video. 4g will likely be faster but it is expensive and has caps on it.... there are newer plans that have less restrictive caps but it varies a lot from provider to provider.n You will need a special router to use a 4g modem.
