Faulty RAM working with new HDD

I just bought some new RAM from newegg since my computer would randomly shut off if most of the RAM is not in use along with a new HDD since my old one was ancient. One of the RAM sticks seemed to be bad because the computer only shut off when most of the RAM wasn't in use. I took out one of the RAM sticks and all runs fine. It doesn't shut off when it's under heavy load with both sticks in. I installed the the new HDD but not the new RAM yet and it's running great. No shut offs.

Now I'm considering returning the new RAM since it's running well. Is it possible there was something weird going on with the RAM and HDD causing the ransom restarts?

Old HDD was from an HP a1130n desktop PC. I don't have the model# handy.

Hello... If you are changing your RAM/hardware on your MB... I suggest a proper battery removal and CMOS reset/Clear procedure each time... let your MB BIO's find/create the best/new communication settings for the RAM change.

It would never shut off when running RAM intense programs such as Battlefield 4 or Witcher 3 or Counter-Strike; Global Offensive. I would even leave a game minimized just so it didn't shut off which worked. As soon as I close one of these programs, 5-15 minutes later it would shut off and restart. No blue screen or anything.

Hmmm... I don't see how it can be related to running a game, since after you close it, it takes 5-15 min for a restart. I mean, memory gets freed-up almost immediately after a game is closed, right? So, why 5-15min? I also don't understand how memory problem could show up only with a new HDD. Is new HDD actually an SSD? Maybe, significantly increased speed of SSD operation stresses RAM and makes hidden at the lower access rate of the old HDD problem appear? Such as, incorrectly set speed/timings in BIOS? So, double-check BIOS for RAM settings, maybe?
