Games use normal RAM instead of Video RAM

Lately, I have been having lots of trouble with my RAM. I have 8GB, and that should be plenty to run 1 game, but for some reason, every game I play seems to use half of my normal ram (filling it up), while only using like 2 GB out of my 8 on my GTX 1070.

I worked with another RAM issue not too long ago where it would just fill up completely at idle, and have run numerous virus scans and re-installs of windows. It seemed to have been solved for a little while, but seems to be coming back.
That thread can be found here:

(That thread also has the specs if you need them)

It lags my games to a point where they are unplayable. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me.
Thank you!

What games have you tried? Depending on the engine, implementation and resolution the memory usage can differ vastly.

BF4 on 1080p for example sits around 2 GB while Shadow of Morder easily reaches above 4.6 GB VRAM. VGA 5 rarely uses above 4 GB and Tomb Raider might not even use 1.5 GB (All on 1080p maximum settings and AA)

So unles your performance actually suffers (like in, below what the should compared to similar machines), it should not concern you.

Please some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe vast majority (if not all) games can only use 2GB of video memory. Try maybe to run two games at the same time and see if it goes to 4GB.
