my sata power to my ssd died last night, and i have managed to get that up and running, however now my ethernet is saying it is connected to the router, but there is no internet access (the yellow triangle). i really dont have a clue what to do, i have reinstalled my ethernet controller and troubleshooted a countless number of times, but nothing.

also it says that the network it is connected to is unidentified

wondering if anyone could help

thanks.

Yes it's very likely that there is no link between the two powerline boxes, yet the one closer to your computer is still powering its ethernet port. Does the box at the router (and the router's port) light up?

Ethernet ports can die pretty easily from surges and such, and you said your SATA power died so I guessed it was the plug because those are known to even catch fire. But usually the ethernet port goes dark or keeps disconnecting and reconnecting if bad--yours is solidly connected to your powerline adapter and just can't get an address from the router.

It's best to avoid those powerline boxes if you can, as I've seen as much as 700ms ping from them which is worse than even wifi.
Even if you had no internet the router would hand out a DHCP address so the network would be identified, so it sounds like a problem with the router. Try rebooting it and using a different port on the router.

If you are using the internet on another device using the same router, check and see if your PC is connected to a switch that somehow got disconnected from the router.

Of course shorting the SATA power connector (those little pins are really too close together) could have somehow fried the port.

my parents pc is also connected to the router via Ethernet, so i swapped the two Ethernet cables and they got internet access but i didnt.

i am using these to give my pc ethernet: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A0VBPLM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

do you think these may be faulty?

also do you mean sata port on my motherboard? do you think i should change the port for that?
