I have come into possession of a group of Seagate ST33000650ss 3TB HDDs, The stickers are labeled Seagate and have firmware revision XRR2. Does anyone know if this is a vendor-specific drive(HP, Dell, IBM)? Seagate has no newer firmware for the drive. I'm trying to install it into a Dell but when I do it makes this incessant chirp/knock, regardless of whatever controller/cabling combination I use. The drives also pass all diagnostics(2 drives failed) that I've tried and when I run them the noises stop until the diagnostic finishes, and then they return. I'm beginning to think that these drives won't work in a Dell. If so, is there a way to re-flash the firmware for Dell? Inquiring minds want to know!

I cannot answer your question fully as I cannot hear the noise.
The drives are not specific to any manufacture they should work in any device.
Sounds like you have three old drives that are worn out to me though.
