Hello everyone. Sorry for the long post but I need some help I'm new to pcs but recently a co worker got me interested. I've gamed for years but have finally decided to move to pc so far from my two days of research this is what I've came up with keep in mind I have almost no idea what I'm doing. I also do. Not have a hard set budget but total cost I would prefer to stay under 1300. I'm knowledgeable when it comes to wiring and electronics but nothing pc specific. I am looking to run newer games gta mostly at 1080p at 60fps and somewhat future proof it. I also have no idea exactly what it takes to put together a pc I know this does not include keyboard, mouse and display. I was hoping to use my 50inch tv but that is not a deal breaker. Also need to figure out what os will cost me, thinking now it may be better to buy one prebuilt

Few words.

With this build, you can play today's games on high/ultra settings @ 1080p with solid 60+ FPS.

If you want better performance then changing out only CPU and GPU, like here,
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mpFqXH
then you're looking at high-end gaming PC that can play today's games on high/ultra settings @ 1440p (2K) with solid 60+ FPS.

But if you want the best performance in your budget range, then you're looking towards this enthusiast build (color theme: white),
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HzWwFd
With this build, you can OC (overclock) your CPU to get more out of it. Same goes for RAM, where you can run your RAM at 3000 Mhz and not the stock speeds of 2400 Mhz as with the first 2 builds. Being enthusiast build, it's components also share the white theme of your NZXT case. E.g white MoBo and white RAM heatsinks.

Hi this is my first PC game build. I saw all of the answers you have given others. I would appreciate your advice on this build, anything I should change or other recommendations. I just want to make that it will adequately run new and old games from steam. If you can think of anything else I might need or should add please let me know. Thank you in advance. I am not a computer savvy individual, I've been playing consoles my whole life.

You don't need 850W PSU for your build. Your GPU is 150W and add the rest of the system at about 200W and total power consumption would be 350W. 500W range PSU would be more than enough, e.g Seasonic M12II-520 EVO or Seasonic G-550,
pcpp: http://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/TgW9TW,DPCwrH/

Other than that, your build looks good.
Full build too, pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/W7pVyf
With your build, you're looking high/ultra settings @ 1080p with solid 60+ FPS.

Awesome thank you for the quick reply. Do you think I would need an optimal drive? If so what would you recommend.

You mean ODD as Optical Disk Drive? If so then do note that 460X RGB case doesn't have 5.25" ODD bay and you can't use it. Unless you buy external one.

As far as internal one goes, for DVDs and CDs, you can go for this one,
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wT2kcf/asus-optical-drive-drw24f1st
And for BDs (blu-ray), this one,
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/z2dqqs/lg-optical-drive-wh14ns40

External ODDs are rare sight for desktop PCs since they are meant to use with laptops that doesn't have ODD. In other words, i don't know enough about external ODDs to suggest you one.

As far as if you need ODD at all depends on your needs. Most newer systems can go without one. But since i've been around PCs for over 20+ years, i like to keep ODD connected to my PC, just in case i need it.
ODD is useful when you use CDs/DVDs/BDs to store your data on or to read data off from them. Nowadays, USB flash drives have replaced CDs, DVDs and BDs since they are smaller and have bigger capacity.
