So i was wondering if instead of 3 120mm fans, it would be okay if i mounted 2 140mm fans on a 360mm radiator. I am not sure at all how hot the cpu would get or what the temp of the case would be, but would it be fine if i did this? Would it work at all?

Solution
the 2x140mm and 1x120mm might work if the 120mm sits in the middle and the other two with the adapters sat above it, but not ideal. i would try to return the fans if possible.
How do you plan on mounting them? If you want to use 2x140mm fans, then get a 280mm rad. There are specific mounting holes on the rad for the fans, so there is no easy way to mount 2x140mm on something expecting 3x120mm except using duct tape and zip ties.

well they won't fit side for side, so a portion of your rad will not be covered by any fans. Why not just use the proper fans for the proper rad?

Assuming it is a "cone" style adapter, then 10mm will be hanging over the rad as well, which may not work for most cases that have a 360mm rad spacing, but then even so, you will have 260mm of horizontal coverage on a 360mm surface. 1/3 of your rad is not being cooled. I do not see it being effective in any way and probably worse for cooling.

I was curious because i had accidentally purchased 3 140mm fans instead of 3 120mm. It was a stupid mistake. Would possibly 2 140mm and 1 120mm fan (mounted with zip ties or something) work? Or will i have to purchase all new fans?

Ok but what if it's push/pull config?
