Just built a new rig, fx 6300, msi 970 gaming mobo, msi rx 480 8gig model, running the factory fan which seems horrible, running graphics at 2560 x 1600, on high settings, no overclock, even playing doom im at like 65c i know thats to high for the processor, should i do a self contained water cooler for cpu?

Solution
I have an FX6350, bought in 2013 and installed on an ASUS 990fx Sabertooth v1.0 board (2011). I have a Zalman 92mm cooler: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223

That is my second Zalman, both of which have been superb coolers across multiple builds are run exceptionally well still (2006 and 2009 buys). I don't think you can do better for air, imo. I had an Antec P180 with modest fans and pushed 60-65 degrees at full loads.

I recently upgraded the case to a Corsair 760T/white in prep for a new Ryzen build this summer. My temps with the new case and extra fans, 6 total, are now typically 48-52s C. Nice drop in temps. Idle is about 26C in approximately 68F ambient room temps. I strongly recommend the...

Hi Baelsur :)

If your temperatures are becoming too excessive under load then you can upgrade the Cooler or drop your Core voltage.
Droping the Core voltage will reduce temps however your system will become unstable and you will then have to drop your CPU frequency and loose some performance. Not the best solution.
65C on the core under stress is not excessive.
AIO Water coolers help with OCing however decent and cheaper Air coolers do a better job than smaller AIOs.
It depends on your tower case if you can fit one and a H100 or equivalent should be considered.
Also consider your Thermal Paste and replace it with a good thermal conductive paste like AS5 or MX4.

Yes the 212 evo is still good or the Cryorg H7 are cheap decent air coolers.

+1 on the Zalman. I have an older model that I paired with my 6300. It is super quiet and does a good job. I used AMD overdrive to set a fan speed profile so the speed increases as the temperature rises.

Edit: Correction, I used Gigabyte's EasyTune to set the fan speed profile, not AMD Overdrive.
