Hi everyone
I have a question the k and no k chips are the same and perfom the same at stock speeds the k ones are overclockable and the non k dont because of locked multiplier so far so good but the multiplier is locked via a microcode in the bios or there is something more on the chip itself?

Solution
It's physically wired that way in the chip. In the older days, they'd cut a line lead to lock the chip (AMD Thunderbird, etc) that could be jumpered with a pencil to unlock it. Nowadays it is inside the chip core itself; and thus impossible to work around on a physical level.
