so i bought a DX58SO mobo with a i7 950, usually when i plug in the front panel usb ports i plug it into any pins that aligned with the holes for the ports, seems i made a huge mistake when i plugged it into the blue plastic bit with the same pins with the black plastic bits with the usb pins, after trial and error i killed 3 usb sticks to diagnose the problem (worth it? idk.. atleast i didnt kill my external hdd)

my question what does that same pin blue bit front panel usb thingy do? it sure doesnt seem like a usb port if it killed my usbs

this is a picture for reference:

(also i would like a recommendation for a good cooler to overclock the i7 950)

Solution
Blue USB port usually means it's USB3 but that shouldn't be problem because the are compatible with USB2. You better check how it's connected to MB, It's difficult but possible to connect it wrong and reverse polarity which in turn can ruin anything inserted in it.
