So I'm making a pc... I picked a MSI Z270 SLI Plus mobo. I don't think it has a wireless internet thingy. It only says Intel LAN and since LAN is usually a "Local" connection I'm pretty sure thats not a wifi thing.. So seeing how I know jack shit about computers other than basic hardware and a little bit of coding, I need to know how to use my computer with a wireless connection. I know you can use a PCIe wireless adapter or a USB wifi thing but I don't know which one to use... Should I get the PCIe one so that its in my computer or should I just do the easier thing and get a usb wifi adapter. I also need to know which one to use... I'm going to game and I might stream if I feel like it (not decided) so I'm gonna need a good connection... If I go for the usb one I want it to be small so that I don't have something in my way... But not too small that I lose it or something... If I go for a PCIe I just want it to be good and do what I said I might do with ease... I'll pay 50-100 for it so I dont have a shit connection.. Please help me with this... I'm extremely dumb and didn't think of this when I was planning out the build..

You may get a shit connection even with the best wireless device in the world. Wireless performance is mostly dependent on your house construction and other wifi sources like your neighbors. It may work fine and then be garbage because a neighbor turned on his router or maybe one of those new cars with wifi hotspots drives by your house.

This is the key reason they say to never play online games using a wireless connection.

Look at powerline devices like the linksys 1200m ones if you plan to spend money. These work in most houses very well for games.....there is that rare house they do not so make sure you can return it.

But to your direct question. PCIe tends to transmit at full power and has better antenna. The huge...

But to your direct question. PCIe tends to transmit at full power and has better antenna. The huge problem is those antenna are very close to the metal case. You can get antenna extenders that will let you place the antenna on top. USB you have to be selective. Many units are designed for small size and low power. Both those are bad when it comes to wireless. In most cases you want external antenna if you can find them but internal antenna are ok if they are large enough. This makes the unit larger which you say you do not want. The huge advantage to usb is it is easy to extend away from the computer cheaply using a usb extension cable. You do not want to hide it in the back of the computer for the same reason the PCi card has issues. It is even worse if you do that with a USB because is has smaller antenna than pci cards.

Which you pick depend a lot on your router. You want to match the specs. Does not do a lot of good to buy a 802.11ac nic if your router only supports 802.11n.
