iOmega NAS drive not connecting

Hello,

My iOmega Cloud Edition NAS drive comes on but no network connection there is no input/output activity registering on the network router port nor on the NAS... took the 2TB hard drive out and connected SATA port to USB on my computer. The hard drive is recognized but windows prompts for formatting the hard drive. I need to recover 1.5tb worth of data on it... please help.

Do not let Windows format it. The Iomega operates using Linux Software RAID aka mdadm. Standard RAID recovery software like R-Studio / UFSexplorer / DMDE should be able to recover the data.

It claims to recover RAID data but since I have never tried it I can't offer an opinion. Let us know if it works.

It is a single hard drive, so there should be nothing super complex about accessing the data, other than needing an OS or software that can access the Linux file system on the drive. In this case, you are probably best off using UFSExplorer. It should be just a matter of selecting the drive, selecting the files and saving them out to a target drive.

If you want to go the free route, just mount the drive within Linux. Any live USB/CD version would suffice.

I had started using DMDE but which RAID should I use with my hard drive?

Realized you had also suggested RAID finder... is it easier?

I used RecoverMyFiles as well it shows all the files but no folder structure... would RAID recovery help with that?

With DMDE try RAID1.

Easier is subjective. But as you have DMDE already it should do the job.

You should be able to achieve the recovery of the full filename and folder structure.

When selecting RAID1 it needs two hard drives so that doesn't work... now tried your ISO but its a bootable DVD! Why a bootable DVD for a USB drive?

I need to recover files with the folder structure which is very important as I have 1.8TB of data on it...

Sorry if the instructions were not clear. You can either burn the RAIDfinder .iso file to a CD or DVD disc. Or you can make a bootable USB flash drive using LiLi http://linuxliveusb.com/en/download

RAIDfinder runs under a customized bootable version of Linux. Which is contained in the .iso file. It is your choice to make a bootable CD/DVD or to make a bootable USB flash drive.

After bootup you edit a config file in notepad then RAIDfinder runs to hopefully recover your data. Please reread the instructions.
