1080ti armor fan issue

Hi - so I'm having an issue where my MSI 1080ti Armor Edition fans are not going past about 2350 rpm or so at 100% fan speed even though they are supposed to go up to 4000. A reviewer on newegg seems to be having a similar problem and suggested that it was a firmware issue.

I'm planning on calling MSI when I can but I'm just wondering, is this something that I will have to send my card back in for? Or something that could possibly be fixed with a driver or bios update?

you sure they are meant to be able to do 4000rpm?

seems awful high for 100mm fans

u can set ur custom fan speed curve in msi afterburner/bios. tried that?

I might have the max wrong but I know they should run faster than they are. Even at 100% speed the fans are not very loud like they should be. I am using a fan curve through afterburner, they go to 100% at 80c but at 100% they are not going as fast as they should be.

how hot does the card get?

only review i have read so far was the asus 1080ti and it didnt get very hot

Well, my ROG STRIX reachs 3.7k RPM so 4000RPM looks a good number, but acoustic speaking not. This highly can be a firmware problem, but call MSI if you can to do a swap or its a firmware problem.

wow 3700/4000rpm must be really loud does it actually need that much rpm to keep it cool enough?

cant compare it though as my gtx1070 has a water block on it

My 1080ti can get up to 85c whereas my old 980ti very rarely hit 80c at max fan speed.

the armor oc does not have the twin frozer fans like the gaming x. so i think its natural that it runs a bit hot.

Have you tried with another software to force the rpm higher?

Well, at today never used the fan @ 100%.(except testing on overclocking). But yes, loud enough, but in real world experience, its really hard to reach the 100% with gaming. 60~70% almost no audible with a closed case.

would think the fan speed can be altered with a bios update on the card to answer your question

the 1080ti is a new card. if more ppl have the same issue, maybe a new firmware update would solve it. MSI's service is not poor. so dont worry. 85 is still a safe zone for gpu. 70ish in-game is the best case scenario.

well true, but evga may have set different factory bios parameters for there cards ?? they may of went with function over speed/ noise .

heck this guys evga 1080 got up to 5586 rpm's @ 100%

thing is the card are just released and nothing is out there to look at on them on any of the 1080ti from any brand

I guess it down to hope a guy with your exact same card posts back to compare to [also if some one does check your and his bios revision used to be sure there the same bios's on booth cards ] like my card had 3 bios's released for it from the factory that little change may = different results between like cards
