So I have tried reading through hours of forums on this subject, only to find a lot of opinions that go back and forth and then go off on tangents that are off the base topic. My question is fairly simple. Even though Maya seems to be the big argument between all Graphics Cards. I dabble very little in it.

I mainly use boot camp for autocad, Hydracad, and Revit. Things are going towards 3D BIM for work. Yes I do some gaming on both windows and Mac platforms. Aside from work I use abobe Lightroom, Photoshop and the works on the Mac side. Along with Pro Tools for my other job.

I'm confused which card is the best for me. To my knowledge none are virtual reality ready.? correct me if I'm wrong there. (Since these are cards that are flashed Mac and with little issues)

So it leaves me with, since things are going towards 3D, does this mean the gtx 980ti should be my jam?

Or due to the larger file sizes of 3D BiM modeling will the 12 Gb DDR5 of the Titan x really be what I need over the 6 in the gtx?

I know benchmarks can show things both ways depending on programs. But I would like the best card for all I do. I feel due to the expansive use list the quadros just won't fit the bill.

The cost is of no concern. I currently have 2.8 ghz quad core 16Gb ram that is being upgraded at the same time as the video card to 64Gb ram now. Already have 1Tb SSD Samsung pros. And soon after I plan to update the tray to a 12 core 3.46GHz westmere setup with full 128Gb ram.

Yes I do most work in wireframe 2D with little in 3D but it seems to be changing and I want to be future proof as best as I can. What do you guys think? Most opinions seem to go to 980ti in forums. But a few still say the Titan x is better. Thank you for your time and consideration.

PS. Is it possible to two different cards at the same time? Like say quadro for wireframe but the gtx kicks in for the 3D or whatever?

I made a mistake-- I was referencing the M6000, which is the newest Quadro at 24GB GDDR5. The M4000 is a lesser 8GB VRAM, which is still good, but is on par with the 1070/1080. Price-wise, the Quadro isn't a great choice- if...

If money is no object, than your absolute best bet is the Quadro. As for running two different cards, NVidia is a picky motherf***er when it comes to that- only the same type of card, and only certain ones in a series (The 1070, 1080, 1080Ti, Titan X and maybe the Quadro).

If you have 5,000 USD lying around, a Quadro is just fine- 24GB of VRAM is a LOT of horsepower for accurate calculation and 3D works. However, a Titan is essentially a lesser Quadro with less accuracy and VRAM.

I thought that the Mac Pro 5,1 (2011-2012) only had quadro m4000, Titan X and GTX980ti as flashed Mac options these days? I know there are way better quadro cards, but not for my system or Macs in general. Windows yeah a $5000 card with 24Gbddr5 ram would be my ticket. But I only run Windows in boot camp. Thus limiting myself to those 3 card choices. Or is there some newer information I'm unaware of that I can get a better Mac flashed card then those options?

The m4000 to my knowledge is only 2Gb not 24.
