Do I need to buy a powerful cooler, liquid or not, to overclock my CPU, even if the overclock won't be extreme?
I have a simple Hyper 412S. Is this enough to get me started?

Solution
I have a 5820k. When I first bought at X99 launch, I was testing my OC on air with a Noctua NH-U14S. At 4.4Ghz, temps were in high 80C, peaking in 91C range in Realbench. Gaming temps and idle were much lower though. Case was 800D with plenty of airflow. Really depends on your goals, system usage, case airflow, ect. to help with decision. If your not pushing for a higher OC and voltage within reason, your cooler should be fine.
To get started with overclocking any aftermarket air cooler is sufficient.
To do a more extreme overclock requires a very beefy air cooler or water cooling.
Closed loop water coolers offer at best minor gains over air cooler so if you are not going to go for full open loop setup then just stick with a good air cooler.

And do you think my air cooler is enough?

Most likely, yes.
