EVGA 1070 FTW video card issue

Hi,

It seems I have a faulty EVGA 1070 graphics card. I just completed a 7700k build for a customer with an ASUS Strix 1070 OC edition and benchmarked it against my 5930k rig and discovered my card wasn't pulling its weight.

The below pic shows cinebench benchmarks. The lowest score is when I first discovered the issue, 2nd above that is after I uninstalled the driver and reverted to a previous driver and the top two are after installing the latest driver from EVGAs website. It seems to have gotten better as I went along but what bothers me is my card is being compared to a GTX 460 and AMD 5770!

I ran Vulcan and my card didnt even complete 12 of the 23 tests:

Novabench shows just how bad my card is performing when I first found the issue:

This is running Novabench again after reverting to the previous working driver:

This is testing the 7700k system against my system:

I know the 7700k clocked at 4.9ghz is outperforming my rig at 4.1ghz but I would expect there to be that much difference in the performance of the video cards on these two different platforms. It clearly looks to me that theres an issue with my card. I know that there's an issue with the thermal pad on the vrms on my card that needs to be addressed but my temps seem to be normal.

I just ran another cinebench test with no system setting changes and I get a totally different score again:

I dont know whats going on but I should be getting more consistent readings than this if this card was working correctly.

Update: I thought I put this in already but my card is the EVGA 1070 FTW card.

Any thoughts?

I decided to swap out my 1070 FTW and picked up an MSI 1080ti but am still plagued with low benchmark issues. I've used DDU to uninstall all drivers and then reinstalled but no fix.

3Dmark is placing my rig above laptops but below a 970 gpu which is totally wrong. I'm beginning to wonder if my PSU is flaking out. Its relatively new, Corsair RM1000x. Nothing else makes sense but to simply do a new Windows install and see if that clears everything up.

I may just do that tomorrow unless anyone can give any other suggestions...

I also noticed late last night CAM giving warnings that my kraken 61 fluid were too hot and that my gpu temps were also too hot. I went into CAM settings and set to performance. The messages weren't as frequent but still popped up occasionally. I shut down my system and intentionally moved the video card down one slot to see if it was a pci-ex slot issue but got similar results. The card was almost too hot to touch. I shut down my rig overnight and will reinstall windows sometime today.

Also, I went back into my BIOS and reverted everything back to default settings. I noticed that even the mouse was laggy in the BIOS but smoothed up a bit when I reverted back to default. Benchmarks didnt improve afterwards. Something tells me I have a hardware problem and I think I will need to focus on temps to make sure my cpu cooler is doing its job.

Thanks for going the extra mile on that. I know I should be getting much better scores than what I'm getting. This lets me know just how bad my issue really is now.

I'm not one that likes to have issues so I'll work on this today until I figure it out, lol.

yes checking cpu and gpu temps is one of the first things i would do if was getting issues like that

though the gtx1070 isnt a very hot running card so shouldnt be thermal throttling unless somethings way off

at least my card any way didnt run hot before i watercooled it though it had the largest cooler i have ever seen on a gpu which certainly would have helped

Agreed and I didn't get any warnings on temps until after installing the 1080ti. I just broke my system completely down and there's a bit of dust build up on the krakens radiator flu. I'm using the Xigmatek Elysium case that has 6 case fans installed so air flow has never been an issue. I'm sort of in need of replacing this case due to the power button no longer works (bad design in the first place) and the built in drive docking bay doesn't work either.

Since my motherboard is the extended ATX Asus Rampage Extreme V 3.1, I'm extremely limited to my case options. I'm about to head out to possibly pick up either the Coolermaster Stryker or Storm case. It seems to have all of the features I want and a working power button! I tried to contact Xigmatek about possibly ordering parts to repair my case but no reply.

I'll give an update shortly... =)

and unlike xigmatek

when i had an issue with my previous haf-x hot swap(yes i have tried a lot of cases lol)

coolermaster support was spot on emailed them in the usa they sent it straight to european branch in holland who sent new part which was with me

within 2 days of me emailing my receipt for the case to them
